Key Ingredients in Anti Aging Makeup

Anti-Aging Makeup Ingredients

With great advancements in the cosmetic world, companies are now including anti-aging ingredients in makeup to reduce the signs of fine lines and give a youthful glow to your skin.  You spend time putting it on in the morning, and time taking it off at night, so you might as well reap the benefits of anti-aging ingredients for time-effectiveness.

We discuss anti-aging makeup in greater detail in our article, Anti-Aging Makeup: An Overview. The next time you shop for your favorite foundation, concealer, blush and lipstick – look for these ingredients to stop the aging process (or at least slow it down a bit).

  • Retinol

The purest form of vitamin A, retinol is used to prevent further environmental damage to your skin and it assists in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Peptides

Peptides direct the skin to produce more collagen – which gives the skin a firmer, youthful look.  When collagen breaks down, the body produces peptides, but as we get older, this process slows down.  By applying peptides directly to the surface of the skin, your skin is “tricked” into thinking that collagen needs to be produced.  Also, when copper is attached to a peptide it promotes collagen production; copper has been known to provide healing for wounds – attached to peptides, copper works to rejuvenate the skin.

  • Antioxidants

Chemicals that protect the skin cells from sun damage, pollution, wind and temperatures, antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, E and beta carotene assist in skin repair and they also strengthen blood vessels.

These ingredients are great to assist you in your quest to get younger looking skin.  The effectiveness of the product that contains these ingredients also depends on the concentration of the ingredient in the anti-aging makeup.   Unfortunately, most companies won’t tell you the concentration; however, look to see if these ingredients are high on the list located on the back of the product. The higher they are on the list of ingredients, the more concentrated the ingredient is in the product.

Also it is suggested that you choose cream-based products over powders as the skin absorbs creams better.   For example, vitamin E is an oily material.  It is easier to blend it with cream than a powder because not only is it hard to blend the two together, but they tend to separate – which defeats the purpose.  Powders usually “sit” on the surface of the skin and can make the skin look old, dull, and tired.

  • Algae

If algae are present as an ingredient, algae can function as an emollient that helps bring moisture to the skin. Algae also have antioxidant benefits, and give the skin a healthy glow.

  • Collagen

Our skin produces collagen, and it supports the structure.  Collagen deteriorates as we age.  Applied topically, collagen is the perfect moisturizer.

  • Hydroquinone

Makeup that contains hydroquinone will assist in lightening brown spots, age spots, sun spots and other problems with pigmentation that make us look older than we really are.

  • Titanium Dioxide & Zinc Oxide

Look for these ingredients in anti-aging makeup because of their effectiveness in protecting and fighting the sun’s rays.

Don’t Forget to Moisturize!

The skin is truly like a sponge.  It is wrinkled and rough when it is dry, but when moisturizer is applied regularly, it becomes soft and smooth.  Moisturizer is a cheap and effective way to give your skin a beautiful, youthful glow.  Always apply moisturizer prior to the application of makeup, and after cleansing your face before you go to bed.

A daily regimen of skin care is recommended to take hold of the aging process.  In addition, a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise and water consumption will leave your skin looking its best.  Also applying sunscreen everyday can protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays.

Utilizing anti-aging makeup is a great way to maintain youthfulness and keep your skin looking as young as possible for as long as possible.
